For the Love of Friendship

Friends are the family we choose to have in our lives.  Those all important people who with whom to share the highs and the lows and the roller coaster we call life.

I’m often inspired to share in my blogs, real life events and today, out of the blue was surprised by a friend popping in on the off chance to see me and boy am I pleased I was in, albeit hanging out the washing with no milk in.  Friend’s don’t care if you hair is a mess, your home in disarray and there are no posh biscuits to share, they are there for you and meet you wherever you are.

What does the word friend or friendship mean to you?  

When you think about your own special family of friends, who comes to mind?  

How long have you know each other?

What similarities and interests do you share?

How did you come to meet?

What have you been through together?

What are your happiest memories shared? 

When was the last time you shared from your heart openly that you love your friends?

What’s your next available chance to make plans to meet with your friends? 

Time can’t be banked, exchanged or extended and before you know it time will fly…

Like my friend and I, life and circumstances took us to different parts of the country, each of us doing our own thing and yet coming together as if it was just yesterday we met.   With much chin wagging, hugs, laughter and tears we were able to fill in the blanks as to just how we have been sending our time.

There’s something truly special about friends and the best way I can describe it is like having a heart centred connection which stays in place and whenever life might take you that connection is a bond never broken.

Whether it’s been a month, a year or indeed years you have been out of contact with friends, coming together to meet each other exactly where you’re each at, will bring much joy to your heart.

The Hidden Meanings of Dreams

Did you know, your dreams can offer so much insight into resolving problems as well as achieving goals?

Recently I discovered the power of my own dreams and how to use dream time to it’s best advantage.

Our minds are amazing, used wisely, spending a little time each day recording your dreams and beginning to understand your subconscious messages, no longer do we need to try and resolve a problem consciously, our dreams can do that for us.

~ How often do you have a reoccurring dream?

~ What percentage of your dreams are random and make no sense at all?

~ On waking and remembering a dream how often do you experience the left over feelings of the dream and feel like it’s actually happened?

~ When do you experience nightmares or bad dreams that seem so real you become anxious about sleep?

~ Do you have dreams that seem impossible to comprehend?

Fear not, dreams are a gateway to learning…. 

If you are experiencing nightmares, a regular dream theme or even random dreams, all can be understood using simple processes.

If you want to resolve a problem and work towards an outcome which is desirable for you, you can set a dream intention asking your Higher Mind (often known as Higher Conscious Mind) to send a message to you unconscious mind which encodes the message in words, pictures or symbols.  Your conscious mind can then interpret the meaning of the message.

You can easily begin to understand how dream time might offer you an understanding how to resolve a problem in your life right now, or indeed a left over problem from the past that might need clearing.

Dreams also guide you as to what the next steps in your life might be and the actions you can take to achieve your goals and purpose.

You may experience your dreams in visions, symbols, words, even smell and taste can be experienced in dreams.  I know many of mine have seemed very real, others seem to flit from my mind in seconds.

Dreams can help you achieve your physical dreams.  If there is something you want to achieve in the future, perhaps you have an event coming up that you will be speaking at, sitting an exam or a test, perhaps you want to know if a relationship is right for you or what to do next in your career.

Dream time and the dreams you dream will offer insights to you, helping you to take action away from a problem or towards achieving your goals. Dream time will also support you in answering questions you may have been trying to find solutions to at a conscious level.

Amazing isn’t it that we can work all these things out while sleeping by simply handing over the working outs to our higher minds.

If you’d like to understand your dreams, my best advice is to use a dream journal and become curious as to what you can learn from them.

Whether you wake in the middle of the night and remember a dream or if you find yourself waking and remembering dreams, begin to make simple notes of what you saw, heard, felt and experienced in your dream.

I propose to offer some Analysing Your Dreams workshops later on this year and can also offer one to one dream interpretations, working with you and guiding you so YOU understand the meaning of YOUR dreams.

Using some great techniques which I will keep as a surprise for now you can speak directly with your subconscious mind, set dream intentions and became the expert in analysing your dreams!

It’s time to let go of the things weighing you down!

The weight of emotion bears heavily on us as does the past if we spend too much time focusing on the negative aspects of time that’s already done!

The past only exists in our minds, a bit like a hard drive, if we keep going to the anger file and re-read all the history of every time we’ve felt angry, chances are just thinking about those events, people who made us angry and situations where we didn’t feel heard, validated, loved or approved of, well it feels like you’re back in the past and experiencing the event all over again.  And we both know that’s no fun!

Why would we do that to ourselves?

A lot of our thought time is wasted in the past.  Once you’ve spent that time, you can’t get it back!

We’d make better use of our time if we focused on what we’ve learned about the past and how to use that information to get clearer about what we do want!

Changing our thought’s always to ‘okay so what do I want?’  Will be thought time well spent and actually makes you feel more hopeful about life.

Being aware of the past is helpful, living there isn’t!

I invite you to have a ‘Mind Dump’, literally dump out all the contents of what you don’t want on this free to download Pdf worksheet and then go right on ahead and turn your don’t wants, to do wants and notice how your enthusiasm, motivation and focus changes when you spend more time thinking about what remains to be achieved.

The example in the Pdf is about love and relationships though you can use this exercise in all areas of your life.

Fill in the don’t wants first, then complete the do wants.

Now to have some fun, tear off the left hand (don’t want column) jump on it, burn it, rip it into little pieces, make a paper air plane of it and set yourself free form the don’t wants, you’ll be glad you did.

Now, you have just one lovely list about what you do want.

Focusing this way changes your energy vibration and you will find yourself attracting all those beautiful do wants to you.

Letting go of the things that hold you back will open new opportunities.  Your thoughts become clearer, your actions more defined and your goals easier to reach.

Watch out for the side effects…letting go of the things holding you back can seriously improve your life!

When Nothing is Certain ~ Everything is Possible!

What is it that you have been worrying about?

Who or what has been taking up your thought time?

How often does ‘not knowing’ the result of something and ‘uncertainty’ throw you off balance?

What outcome do you focus on when what you want to know about something which isn’t yet known?  

What percentage of your thoughts are positive?

It’s natural for our minds to think and prepare us for the worst case scenario when we are faced with making choices.  It tries to protect us from danger and harm.

Our animalistic’ fight and flight’ mechanisms kick in and sometimes we may also experience the freeze response and we are trapped inside our own thinking, too frightened to move.

In fact, what we create in our minds isn’t actual reality, it’s a story that we make up about what we think will happen.

I bet half of the things you’ve worried about from birth to now haven’t even happened!

Fear disables.  It stops you from growing, advancing, progressing and achieving!

Don’t let your fear based thinking get in your way, your thoughts can be changed!

I personally now tell fear to ”go and do one!”   I’m too busy thinking about what else IS possible!

FEAR = False Evidence Appearing Real

OR

FEAR = Feeling Excited And Ready!

Fear and Excitement are often felt in the gut (solar Plexus).  Don’t confuse your fear with excitement, use the energy of excitement to motivate you into achieving positive outcomes for yourself.

I personally love writing happy ending stories and getting into the mindset of what is possible…

From this moment on , begin to pay attention to your thoughts…. 

Are you thinking ‘worse case nightmare’ or ‘best possible dream’ when your mind runs riot around an unknown outcome?

My best advice is to focus on what you want, not what you don’t want!

Notice how your energy, passion and zest for life, love, health and happiness improve simply by changing your thoughts.

Over a year ago I decided to write my first book

Back then nothing was certain!

I’d never written a book before, I didn’t know how to do it, I knew zero about publishing, marketing a book let alone know how to balance my time to write it.

I had to learn things I never knew. I had to work through some limiting beliefs about my book ‘being good enough’, I had to bring up old skeletons from my cupboard and work through them, I had to set boundaries, I had to learn a heap load of ‘stuff’ .  I had to stretch myself beyond what I thought was possible for me and I’m still stretching as we speak right now!

I focused on the positive outcome of what I wanted to achieve!

My goal  was and still is to get my book out to as many people as possible who need help with love and relationships and understanding the significant role they play in creating happy outcomes for themselves.

Part of my not knowing became clearer when I chunked down all that I had to do.  I used what seemed close to a million post it notes to form the structure and chapters of my book.

I asked for help and hired the right people to help me.  I surrounded myself with people who believed in me and also had to turn the ‘self belief’ notch right up as high as it would go.

Every day for 6 months I got up earlier, I wrote every day, I laughed, I cried, I used EFT Tapping to get me past the blocks, fears, doubts and insecurities and came out the other side with a big grin on my face when I opened my fist copies of Find YOU, Find LOVE

You can watch me here at the Book Opening  so wish I’d done my hair! But hey ho, this is me, opening the books as soon as they arrived!

Today everything is certain!

Don’t Look Back ~ You’re not going that way!

The past is over! 

Many of us stay stuck in the past.  Wishing, wanting, hoping and dreaming for the future to be different but actually doing very little to change it.

What is it you want for your future and what stops you achieving that?

When Time Stands Still

Time flies when you’re having fun it’s true!  Though when have you experienced time standing still?

For me time stands still when I remember:

My first kiss…

The feeling of connection with someone special even in silence…

The joy in my heart for having loved…

Treasured snapshots of time captured in my mind, body and spirit…

When you look back through the scrapbook of your mind when does time stand still for you?

Who were you with?

Where were you?

What were your predominant feelings?

How has that experience benefited you?

What would you do or say if you had that time over again?

Last night I had the pleasure of connecting with someone from my past.  We’ve been in contact for nearly 20 years, seldom meeting though the thread of happy memories and times spent together have remained strong.

Time stood still for me last night  It’s as though I really was that person from 20 years ago.  It was an amazing experience to once more enjoy the connection and bond between two people and be transported back to that time and talk about so many happy memories.

I know that some of you may not have the opportunity to re-connect in the physical world with a loved one from your past though I want you to know that energetically the connections to those that you have loved never die. It is my belief that when you think of them that they will know this and send love to you in return.

I invite you to reflect on the times you have loved and to know that whatever the outcome as William Arthur Ward would say…..

”To laugh is to risk appearing the fool.

To weep is to risk appearing sentimental.

To reach out to another is to risk involvement.

To expose feelings is to risk exposing your true self.

To place your ideas and dreams before a crowd is to risk their loss.

To love is to risk not being loved in return.

To hope is to risk pain.

To try is to risk failure.

But risk must be taken, because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing” 

Arthur’s poem reminds us that we are powerful creators in our lives and we still have time to take risks.

I for one am going to take all these risks….

Every Cloud Has A Silver Lining

Have you ever laid on your back looking at the clouds?

Perhaps you’ve noticed shapes, patterns or even words written across the sky or simply lost track of time as the clouds pass by.

I was reminded yesterday of the phrase ‘every cloud has a silver lining’.  Even when things don’t seem to be going well and we don’t like the situation we are in, some good may come from it, yet to be revealed.

As well as being an author a bigger part of my work is supporting others as an Emotional Health Consultant.  That may include working with people with physical pain too.

Yesterday my client came to me in physical and emotional pain.

I asked the following questions:

  • What is the gift in this situation?
  • How might this physical pain and injury actually be benefiting you? 
  • Since having this complaint, what have you stopped doing that you never enjoyed anyway?
  • What has this injury moved you away from that you are happy about?
  • What is it moving you towards that you want more of?
  • What is this injury giving you time for?

I ask a lot of open question in my work, some of the questions are frustrating and clients do get angry. They might shout and say ‘why would there be a gift in this, I hate having XYZ’.

Emotional and physical pain can be a touchy subject though asking these questions does bring clarity.

Sometimes a client might not know the answer straight away so I ask them to ponder the questions and either email me with the answers or share their learnings in our next appointment. It’s interesting to find out what their silver lining is.

This reminds me of another client I worked with some time ago who didn’t like the question ‘what is the gift in this situation’, she shouted at me and rightly so, she was in chronic pain and had been for years with bouts of pain so bad she was debilitated for days on end.

She then emailed me a couple of months later to say I now have the answers to the questions you asked me.

This is a snapshot of what she said:

I’m sorry I shouted at you.  As much as I hated the questions I can now see that my body and the pain I was holding is in fact a gift.

The gift in this situation is my pain has stopped me going to work.  I now know now that I need to leave my stressful job and move away from the people in my workplace not respecting me or my time.  

I realise that a 3 hour commute each day is adding to my stress.  I hate working in London!

 

This pain is benefiting me as it’s actually laid me up in bed and given me time to think about what I want from life.

I want to live by the cost, in a small cottage and get a dog.  I want to be able to go on long walks with my dog and have time to live life and enjoy it. 

Since having this pain I have not been able to drive to see the people I have toxic relationships with.  It’s given me time to realise that I need to create new boundaries with family.  They weren’t respecting me and I wasn’t respecting myself.

This physical pain has helped me understand the emotional pain I’ve been holding onto from past events and given me an opportunity to work with you and get the right kind of help.

I’m pleased to say that this particular  young lady made contact last year to say she had moved to the coast.  Sent a picture of her adorable puppy.  She now has a new job which is walking distance and is living with a partner in a happy and harmonious relationship.

She is fit, active and only on occasional days when she does too much do the symptoms of chronic pain come back.  Se now has all the skills and resources to manage her pain through our work together.

So my questions to you are:

  • What are your silver linings?
  • How is the relationship you are in benefiting you? Or indeed if you are single what is the benefit of that?
  • The job that you do.  What is it stopping you from doing that you might be afraid of?
  • The physical or emotional pain you may be in.  How has this shaped your life and what do you want instead?
  • If you were free from the things that you don’t want and don’t like what might you have to do that scares you?
  • Now you know every cloud has a silver lining what can you do today that will support you in moving past your physical or emotional pain?

I have hundreds and hundreds of insightful questions that will help to bring clarity to your own personal situation.

Under the Same Sky

It’s fair to say. Waking up at dawn on a Sunday morning at silly o’clock when most normal folk might be sleeping in has its benefits.

Mornings are when I’m most productive. When my brain is the most creative and when I have the most energy so I’ve taken to waking up with the dawn chorus.

Laying in bed looking out across apricot skies, with tinges of turquoise and florescent greens I marvel at the beauty of nature.

I also wondered who might be coming in from a night out seeing the exact same sky or who may have been woken by a hungry baby or snoring husband, bleary eyed and in need of sleep.

It got me thinking that we all live under the same sky.

The sky doesn’t belong to anyone, the moon or the sun come to that and at some point maybe you and I have looked at the same stars in wonder, shared the same sunset or indeed the same dawn chorus.

As you go about your day today, tomorrow, next week and all the months and years ahead take some time each day or night to look up at the sky and wonder who else might be doing the exact same thing.

Feel the connection that we share….

You are never alone…

Somewhere…

Someone…

Living under the same sky…

Is thinking of you

I like it that you and I live under the same sky…

Knowing we are connected through time and space…

Two people with different parents…

Perhaps different nationalities…

Different values and beliefs…

Different hopes and fears…

Different goals and dreams…

We are not separated by these things.  We are connected together through something far greater than ourselves. 

May to September it’s curtains open for me and I naturally wake with the dawn.

Whether you are still sleeping or just waking up to the day….this is for you.

Being or Doing?

Do you class yourself as a doer?

Someone who rarely sits still, always getting on with the next project, idea, theory.

Yep, me too, I can be like that ‘most of the time’

I’ve been practising ‘being’ instead of ‘doing’ today and I have to say…I’m loving it.

As a self employed therapist and author I’m the boss, the cleaner, the admin assistant, the blogger, the post opener, the banker, the errand runner and the tea maker…the list of what I do on most days, including the weekends is pretty endless but I do it all with a loving heart purely because I love what I do and want to make a difference in the world in which we live.

I often set my clients ‘Home Play‘, which is really ‘Homework’ (don’t tell!)

I encourage them to ‘BE’ Instead of ‘DO’.

So today I practised what I preach. I took the day off from doing and just let myself be totally in the moment.

Sitting in sunlight, reading and listening to some relaxing music I simply let go of the doing, the striving the  achieving and allowed myself to submerge into stillness.

Having some valuable time out from thinking, ticking off lists, planning and ‘doing’ there is no greater medicine than this!

By being, I noticed so much more.

The stir of a passing breeze in my hair…

The joy of living in this beautiful world…

The eloquent tunes of birdsong…

Blossom petals floating from a nearby tree…

Insects going about their work…

The world was alive with doing though I was simply being…

It’s as though time stood still…

It’s hard to describe what contentment means though for me this is as close as I can get…

So are you a ‘doer’?  Nothing wrong with that.

I invite you to..simply be……

Tomorrow is a bank holiday in the UK.  It’s a whole beautiful day to BE!

86,000 seconds where you have the opportunity to simply live in the moment….

There is so much to hear, see and feel when we stop doing and start being. 

For me ‘being’ today has fuelled my passion for life, living and loving.

Tomorrow isn’t promised.

Today…just ‘BE’ ….
